Thoughts on making ‘On The Edge’ lyric video

Friday evening. I came into my Dabbles Studios and sat down at 8.01pm, and thought to myself… “Well, may as well give it a crack.”

Five hours later my first attempt at a lyric video was done.

Look, I know it’s not up there with those million-view videos BUT – I am happy how it turned out for a first-ditch effort. It’s funny how quickly you get lost in the process… and how time flies when you’re having fun. Probably too much fun. I mean, work shouldn’t be fun – should it??

It really was a brainstorm – from start to finish – about what kind of cartoon images first came to mind when I thought about the lyrics of On The Edge. And once everything was set up, it didn’t take as long as I thought it would to go through each scene and then capture it digitally – a bonus!

Those who follow RCB life on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) would have seen some of the pics while it was all in process.

I feel as though this style of video suits the mood of the album as a whole. It’s a happy, friendly sound that fits well with the layering video of images and themes to bring the message home clearly.

I’d appreciate your feedback, as we’re into the process of creating more lyric videos like this for the 2010 album On The Edge while we’re busy cementing things for the new project – The Great Deep.
